I'm sure that we all remember and can find internet pics of teams wearing the World Tag belts first worn by the Andersons, but what about various teams wearing the Mid-Atlantic tag belts?
The only ones I've seen on the internet are of Hawk-Flair and the Andersons.
What did the tag belts look like that Woods-Bravo won in the '76 tournament to crown new tag champs after the Andersons when to Atlanta?

I'm sure that the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team belts remained the same until Paul Jones & Ricky Steamboat were champions. They changed to a light blue strap and the same style at the Georgia Tag Team belts that the Road Warriors held. The Mid-Atlantic TV title belt changed around the same time to the same style.

Didn't the title disappear around 83 or 84? I remember bumping into David Crockett at a show in Fayettevlle and I knew I had time for one question so I asked him where were the belts? There had been no mention on TV about the title for about 2 months by this time. Crockett just looked at me and walked off.

The old Mid-Atlantic tag belts were brought back and used well into the 1980s. Jim Nelson and Don Kernodle (The Privates) held the titles in 1982 or 1983. Here is a photo of Pvt. Nelson with one of the belts.

Kyle, I've always heard about the blue strap Mid-Atlantic belts, but I have never seen photos of them. There were a short lived set of blue strap NWA World Tag Belts, worn by Steamboat and Jones, as well as Valentine and Raschke.
Do you have a photo of the Mid-Atlantic blue belts? Is it possible that the Mid-Atlantic belts are just legend, confused with the blue world tag belts?
Thanks.

No legend, I remember Ric Flair & John Studd held the belts briefly and Ken Patera and John Studd held held. Patera was Mid-Atlantic champion and seemed to not be as proud of the tag belt as he always had the singles belt in his hands. Studd on the other hand seemed to always have the tag belt with him no matter what.
I can't think of a any pictures that I might have but seems like I might have a video with Studd and his belt, I'll have to check on it.

Wasn't there footage on the Year in Review show from 1978 of Patera and Studd with the Mid-Atlantic tag straps?

Thanks for that reminder Bluedevil, they indeed are on the 1978 show. Patera is seen here holding the Mid-Atlantic heavyweight and Mid-Atlantic tag team belt. Here is Studd with his. I guess they look so much like the blue world tag belts, I had convinced myself they were the same. Thanks for straightening me out, guys. There are bound to be photos out there. I will double check my Mid-Atlantic Magazines from 1978-1979 and see what I can find. I had forgotten the 1978 tape, perhaps I may have forgotten those, too!

I knew I had a video with Studd holding the belt. Patera's belt had already lost the center piece by this time, then the leather started getting dirty. They used the blue Mid-Atlantic Tag belts a lot longer than they used those blue World Tag belts. I only remember Jones/Steamboat & Vlaentine?Von Raschke holding the blue World belts.

Just checked the Mid-Atlantic magazines, no photos of those blue belts, in fact very few photos of the Mid-Atlantic tag belts at all, which takes us back to the original point of this thread!
At some point on the Gateway, I'll track the title belts and the champions, matching them up with photos of the belts they held, similar to the Mid-Atlantic title gallery. It appears it is going to prove dificult for the 1978 through early 80s period. I recently came across a photo of Buddy Roberts and Jerry Brown (the Hollywood Blondes) wearing them from 1977, taken by Peggy Lathan in Greenville.
The early to mid-80s get easier, as Eddie Cheslock has several photos of teams with the belts (by this time they had gone back to the original belts used since 1973.)
I believe you are right on the blue World tag belts. Those are the only two teams I remember holding those blue belts.

Nelson with one of the belts. I always liked these belts. Funny story here. I used to go to U.Va. all the time for some hearing tests when I was a kid -- 6, 7, 8 years old. Well, on the wall there, they had a pattern that I was convinced looked a lot like this belt. Hey, maybe it was. LOL.
