I don't know if this is true but just was going to pass it on and let you all check it out. Robert sent in the following: I just heard an interview on www.thaoshow.com with Kanyon that LOP readers may be interested in. It's about an hour long, but among other things Kanyon talks about (in the second part) a conversation with Bret Hart where Bret tells him that he was in on the "Montreal Screwjob" ! I copied this from the recap on the site: And here's the BIG SCOOP: Kanyon blew the lid off of one of the biggest stories in the history of professional wrestling. For the first time ever, he publicly discussed a casual conversation he had with Bret Hart. You won't BELIEVE what Bret told Chris about the Montreal screwjob! Bret Hart admitted the whole thing, WAS A WORK! Don't believe it? LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW!

This coming from a guy, who is desperate to be in the spotlight once again.
I wouldn't take a word Kanyon says seriously.

Did you see what he did at a WWE show at ring side? I was told he got kicked out. LOL

Yeah, Kanyon admits he is an emotional wreck, suicidal even. He's pulling at straws now...

I've wondered that myself, I've heard some pretty convincing arguments going both ways on this, and honestly, I wouldn't really be THAT shocked to find out that he did know about it.
To me, that's part of the fun of wrestling, when you're not sure whether something is really happening or not, the illusion of reality, that's what got me hooked on it in the first place!

why is it so hard for people to think bret hart had nothing to do with the "screwjob" Personally from day one i have thought it was a big work on all ends. In all honesty, I'm not saying that it's not a work. I'm just talking about the source of this. Chris Kanyon is so desperate for attention right now, that he would say or do anything to get some notice. As for the Montreal Screwjob....I always thought it was a work, and that Vince sent Bret to WCW to kill it, which Bischoff and Russo did themselves.

Work or not, a few people made serious BANK off that angle.

well, it has seemed awfully strange over the last several years that Bret always seemed to be more upset about the Montreal Screwjob than McMahon dropping his brother without a safety harness in Kansas City. It seems like he should be more upset about his brother getting killed in the name of making McMahon money than over the fact that McMahon switched a finish on him, when he had to drop the title anyway.

I think it's just that Bret knows that Vince was not responsible for Owen's death. It was a technical error of a stunt that had been done 100 times. I think that Bret realizes that he cannot hold Vince accountable for that, the only thing he might hold accountable is the fact that wrestling had gotten so over the top, that it resulted in stunts like that being needlessly done.

With all due respect to Vince, he wasn't the first one to use the harness and lower guys to the ring. If I remember correctly, Sting in WCW did it way before the WWF.

Yeah, Sting was doing it pretty much every week at that point, wasn't he?

I always thought Montreal was clearly a work. Bret was going anyway due to the contract dispute issues about McMahon not being able to financially uphold Bret's massive contract due to dwindling business at the time, and also Bret didn't like the R-rated direction RAW was going in - so they worked out the ultimate angle that would babyface Bret to give him a kickstart in WCW, and more importantly made McMahon a MASTER HEEL in a way no 'traditional' angle would be able to, thus igniting the biggest business period in U.S wrestling history. Also - it made Shawn Michaels - who at that time they thought would be the top heel - appear to be even more of an asshole than he already was as the whinning illegitimate World's Champion....(hence a camera crew was there so the world could the angle 'legitimised' backstage after the show). I don't doubt that there were very few in on the work, though....
Of course, this all completely defies traditional wrestling logic as for the first time the paradox of kayfabe being broken AS PART of a storyline occured. But McMahon had obviously at this point signed up with svengali Vince Russo to make dramatic, complete changes in the ideology of the promotion and its booking.
And you can't blame them - they were risks that paid off....

It always amazes me when people still think it was a work.
Hart's story was backed up with evidence, he had a paper trail, he had an audio trail. The key point is Vince claimed Hart refused to drop the title, and came to Montreal and said he would not drop the title to anyone at any time. If Vince's story had been accurate, fine. The problem was, the tape of the conversation in question was printed in the Observer.
1) Vince never asked him to lose, and in the conversation it was clear both had already agreed he was going to lose it on the next PPV.
Vince "screwed" (and even I don't agree with that term) Bret because BOTH Shawn and Bret refused to job. Everyone forgets that Bret was still under contract to the WWF the day after Survivor Series and for a couple weeks after as well. Also everyone brings up Bret refusing to job but never bring up Shawn Michaels refusing to job as well.

I don't know. Me personally, I like to think that it was a work. I'd like to believe that, despite what everybody says about Vince, he still has the ability to fool us once and a while.
Isn't that what made some wrestling storylines and angles great, the fact that they blurred the line between work and shoot so well that we couldn't be completely sure whether it was real or not?
That's just my take on it, for all I know, it could be a shoot, but I'd like to believe that it wasn't.
