think it was mid-'81 when luke mulligan came in. he was billed as blackjack's cousin and was from some mental hospital. sorta the norman the lunatic, but not as crazy, just a little "off". one of the biggest things he did was during a tv bout between blackjack and ox baker. luke came out with a box of popcorn and sat down at the ring in one of those metal chairs. he'd be having a good time and throwing popcorn at baker. ox did something and got him mad. as ox was getting the best of blackjack, luke came up in the ring, pulled off one of his boots, and popped baker in the back of the head with the heel, getting BJ dq'ed. great comedy spot.

actually Luke sat down IN THE RING in the corner and they let him stay there!!!! BJM told him to sit and stay put,and he did until OX kicked his popcorn out of his hand, that's why he clobbered OX!!!
then there was the time he pulled a magazine out of a paper bag as BJM was giving an interview..............it was a HUSTLER magazine, you could see the cover!!! of course BJM yelled "where'd you get that???" and put it back in the bag and told Luke "you can't look at that on TV!!!" classic stuff!!!

You guys remember more than I do. From 1981 can you remember Brusier coming in and working for Mulligan's Southeastern area?

yeah, i do. i was watching from WLOS from roanoke. the last day they showed it was 10/31/81. it was right around that time that they brought bruiser and bruiser brody in. i seem to recall a three way between them and mulligan in knoxville being talked about if i'm not mistaken. can someone verify if that happened? i loved this show. it was great, had a fantastic roster of regulars, and with les thatcher as host, it was the best thing on tv to me. i always tripped out on the house show promos with all the lineups all the the great matches from this show, with the under and mid card matches having JCP current talent mixed in.

Actually channel 10 in Roanoke is WSLS. Mulligan's promotion was good but never measured up to the Mid-Atlantic shows that it replaced. Unfortunately we lost our Mid Atlantic show while Mulligan's was on. At least we had World Wide Wrestling on the Lynchburg station so we didn't miss out on everything.

thanks for the correction kyle. i knew something didn't sound right about the "WLOS" but i couldn't pinpoint it. i disagree about it not measuring up the MACW. but that's a matter of preference. i was tired of MACW for so long and wanted something else. i got it with this show. for a few months.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the promotion. The line up was a big change and I enjoyed the shows. I just didn't want to lose the Mid Atlantic program. The bad thing about the promotion was that Flair didn't have any time to devote to it and the depth of talent wasn't there to make it work in the long run. Too much Mulligan and Mulligan Jr. in my opinion.
I hardly remember who all was there. Terry Taylor, Wayne Ferris, Larry Latham, Jimmy Hart, Doug Vines and Jeff Sword are the first ones that come to mind. Just don't remember too much more.

The thing I remember was John Studd was working in Southeastern in 1981 and around this time he went to the AWA as well. Now my memory is fuzzy, this was over 20 years ago but I remember Brusier coming in and wrestling Studd. Studd did an injury angle with Mad Dog Vachon in the AWA around this time and I always thought Brusier was there to get even with Studd. I read alot of wrestling mags during this time and all these events get jumbled together over time.

during the time i got to see it: blackjack mulligan blackjack mulligan, jr john studd don carson kevin sullivan terry taylor tommy weathers (don't remember what he did, but he was there) ray candy tim horner doug vines jeff sword wayne ferris mongolian stomper brusier brusier brody les thornton won the NWA jr title back from jerry brisco in knoxville
i recall flair being in the studio doing colour commentary with thatcher on part of one episode.
not a bad lineup of names there. especially when you add in some MACW talent to round out the card.
i figured that the last show i saw on that channel was the end of the promotion. as just as soon as november came, studd and mulligan,jr arrived in MACW. and without them, i doubt the group could have done much.

I remember Flair's commentary and he did a jobber match on TV with Lord Al Hayes doing color commentary.

I remember one time in 1981, I picked up Mulligan's new territory, and it was cool hearing Les do the commentary. I guess it was from a Roanoke or a Lynchburg TV station, if Charlottesville didn't have the show. For some reason, about once or twice a year I could get Channel 10 out of Roanoke.
On that show, I remember Studd tearing up a telephone book, as a feat of strength! Then later in the show, Studd uttered the never to be forgotten line..."I'm gonna put you in my backbreaker---AND BREAK YOUR BACK!!!!" ;D
As for Crazy Luke Mulligan, Blackjack has told me that there was a "Crazy Luke" in his actual family. But I don't know why Tim Brooks was picked for the TV part. Baltimore Jack will be doing something with the "extended" Mulligan family for Blackjack's website...hopefully there we'll learn how Brooks got the starring role!
