I've waited a while to ask this, but was anyone else on this board at the bar area when Stan Hansen refused to sign some younger fan's replica WCW US title belt? He asked the guy if he knew his history with belts and then as Hansen was walking away, told the guy to learn his history. What was up with that?

I saw Stan at Fanfest in Charlotte and he was a gentleman. Of course, we talked about home and his kid playing baseball, so we weren't kayfabing wrestling or anything of that nature.

i never experienced that type of moment around hansen. that night we talked in japan, he asked what our planned wrestling shows to attend were. once one of the guys mentioned we were going to two All-Japan Women's cards, he tripped out. made it real clear to us that women and midgets have no reason to be in a ring. it wasn't wrestling, he said.

I was standing right next to Stan when he made the mentioned comment to that fan. I was also curious as to what his issue was with the belt, becasue he did autograph photos for other fans standing by the dining tables when this happened.
Obvously he has his reasons, and I was surpirsed by his blunt reaction, seeing as the times I've been in his company he was first class towards me.

I think its hillarious. Stan pops a guy's eyeball out, and you call it "stiff"?

I don't condone what he did, but those real tough old kayfabe guys probably don't appreciate the nonchalant manner in which you called it stiff. Stiff is a term used within the ranks, not by a mark who comes up and tries to reminisce about how it was.

I thought he was a nice person, when I was in the autograph line, I talked to him about how I saw the match between him and Vader in Phoenix, he was a cool guy to me.

Well I see my posted was deleted, I guess whoever did condones such A-hole-ish behavior. I stand by my statement. I heard from numerous friends there he has done this a number of times before. Oh well I will make sure to ignore him in the future.

This is hear say (But it is wrestling, so it is probably all BS.):
Hansen was asked to drop the AWA title, and he refused to drop it. Verne demanded the belt, Hansen said, "Ok." Went out on his farm in his truck, put the belt on the ground, and drove over the belt numerous times, back and forth, and sent it back to Verne in the mail.
Stan was one of the ones I wanted to meet last year in Charlotte, and I got to meet him so I am cool with him, whether or not that story is true, is up too you.

I guess that falls in the urban legends of wrestling, much like the Savage/Stephanie story.

You want stiff MAESTRO?! I'll show you stiff! Moron. i hope you are joking here. what maestro said could be true. some of the older guys DO NOT appreciate us "smart fans' usage fo their terminology and such. we use these terms that we have learned through time, but that is a 'language' that workers used to share and that fans have adopted. we use it and it is not ours to use. some still hold to that teaching.

Check the last entry in the "trivia" section en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Randy_Savage&oldid=71916380It should also be interesting to note that Vince did not allow Jakks to sign Savage for the CS series, even though he allowed them to sign Warrior (2x), Bruno, and Bret long before he was talking to Vince. And no, it's not because Savage is asking for too much money.

Who knows what the "truth" is, but I can tell you the story told me by Nick Bockwinkel.
According to Mr. Bockwinkel, Verne Gagne really had no concept of the big picture. Stan Hansen was the AWA World champion and had been booked and advertised as AWA World champion on an upcoming tour for All-Japan.
Again according to Mr. Bockwinkel, when they showed up in Denver (or wherever the change was supposed to take place) and Hansen was given the finish, naturally he had a problem with it. Bockwinkel understood why Hansen balked and said he left and took the belt to Japan. I'm sure someone can verify whether Hansen used the belt in Japan on that tour.
Bockwinkel told the story in such a way that it didn't seem like he blamed Hansen, moreso that Gagne just didn't understand how important Japan had become.
Bockwinkel did say that after Hansen got a letter from Gagne's attorney, he did send the belt back but it looked like Stan had run over it with his truck.
Just like other "tales," this one seems to get bigger and more exaggerated over time, but I tend to believe Mr. Bockwinkel's recollection is probably as close to the truth as anyone could get without hearing it from Stan Hansen himself.
