Thanks for reading. I wanted to get some opinions on my situation. I booked a room weeks ago in the $89 block at the hotel. I was (and still potentially am) really stoked about going. My friend was supposed to be going with me. He got a promotion a few weeks ago and was supposed to tell me if he was going to be able to make it or not. Unfortunately, he never "officially" got back to me, but you can guess the verdict. I also left Greg hanging with something I was speaking to him about, which I'm not happy about. My friend basically left me in the lurch. Not so much with the not being able to go, but with the lack of a concrete response. I obviously can't recruit someone with 3 1/2 days' notice.
Basically, I'm wondering if it will be worth it for me to make the trip solo from Long Island. I don't know what the comfort level, and my ability to have fun will be without knowing anyone and without having someone with me. This would also involve a 4 1/2 hour trip in each direction solo. I would get a really bad VIP number at this point, since I left my ticket in limbo. Basically I'd be pretty far behind the curve. I'm pretty bummed about this, as I really was looking forward to meeting these 42 superstars (all but 8 for the first time).
If the decision is made to not go, I will call up and release my room. Let me know if you need a room at the base hotel. We can make a time where I call and release it and you can call right after and grab the room. Thanks again for the read and for any prospective opinions...

I think you should go, or at least I would. Fanfest is a great experience. People like Bobby Yates (I'm sure) would love to take you under their wing, as it really is a friendly atmosphere and everyone likes talking with folks they know from the board, even newbies like yourself. You may not get the VIP # you want, but with the new format, that might not be a problem. You won't have to wait in line. You just go when you're called. The way I see it, it's not that much of a disadvantage. You aren't confined to sitting in your chair waiting for an hour or two, you can walk around, mingle, browse merchandise, and then finally when your # gets called, you'll probably be in and out of line in no time.

As far as "having a bad VIP number goes", this is the first year my buddies and I are buying the VIP pass. Even without the VIP passes we have a blast each year, we've had no trouble getting our stuff signed. Basically, it worked out kind of like the format is now, we'd look at the vendors until the VIP line finished and then hopped in line and got our stuff signed.

My wife goes with me on the trip, but not the fanfest since she's not into wrestling. It's no problem at all except having to carry so much stuff with no help. You get acquainted easily with those in line around you. Go ahead & you'll be fine.

If the decision is made to not go, I will call up and release my room. Let me know if you need a room at the base hotel. We can make a time where I call and release it and you can call right after and grab the room. Definitely not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but if you cancel the room, the hotel will sell it but at a higher rate. Our group rate expired July 28, so any rooms booked after that would be at the going rate, which is quite expensive. And on the rest of your post, if you can't come and have the time of your life with our group of wrestling crazies, you're just not into having fun. A lot of us probably anticipate getting together with each other just as much as seeing the legends. If you do take the trip, you'll have a blast and make a lot of new friends in the process.

I live near DC and I went to King of Prussia, PA on my own last year. I still had a blast despite the stressful time in line, juggling items, lack of sleep and food, etc.
It's a long shot with such a short time left, but you can try putting an ad in the New York craigslist for someone to come with you (put it in the strictly platonic section).

Oh yeah come - last year I came I my own, including an 8 hour flight each way, my own room, and didn't know anyone (save one or two folks I met on the board). You'll have a hell of a time if you come....
And I'm travelling from NYC by train on Thursday afternoon - directly AFTER an 8 hour flight in from London....so you don't moan to me about travel times, you bloody yank!!

I know a few people who are going, but I'm flying solo so to speak and I'm sure I will have a blast. I have been to many of events like this and I have gone with friends and without and I still have a great time either way.

maestro... i say come. as SSteward said, we shall get together and have some fun. i love meeting people, lord knows i will know about half of who shows up...lol. but seriously, do come. we can all pal around the rooms together, the lobby/bar, maybe meet a new friend to have lunch with or something. and while in line, just remember, you are in line with other people that shares interest in what you like. a conversation can come up right then, real easy. maestro or anyone else, please come..look me up. somebody can point me out. i'll be hangin' with some cool people. we might just talk you into going to charlotte next year..
