here are the 3 top Flair feuds (imo) during the 70s. Which one drew the most and had most heat in your opinion?

Flair -- Mulligan feud start to finish should be REQUIRED viewing and research for any would be promoter, wrestler or "expert" involved with professional wrestling.
I never saw anything as HOT as Flair - Mulligan in MACW.

I never saw anything as HOT as Flair - Mulligan in MACW. MK How long did this feud last. I know the hat and robe (judging from Richard Sullivans great article on it) happened on 4/12/78. And flair and Mulligan wrestled in the Thanksgiving Greensboro show in November that year. So maybe 8 months or so? |

How long did this feud last. I know the hat and robe (judging from Richard Sullivans great article on it) happened on 9/12/78. And flair and Mulligan wrestled in the Thanksgiving Greensboro show in November that year. So maybe 8 months or so? Actually the hat/robe started in late March of 1978 - Crockett milked it by not having Flair/Mulligan from the beginning, but having Mulligan have to fight his way through several bounty hunters (Von Rascke, Valentine, John Studd, Patera, Masked Superstar) during the Spring and Summer of 1978 (remember the bounty matches that Mully and Supes had were during the summer of '78); Mully and Flair actually started taking place in the fall of '78. Crockett got a solid year of full houses from that feud; he got a new top heel and a new top babyface from the same feud. I was at the Charlotte Colloseum on Christmas night of '78 and watched Flair/Mulligan - Watching Flair suplex the 6'7" 320 lbs Mulligan was unreal. There is no way that Vince McMahon's Hollywood writers could EVER do an angle that well. |

This was my goof, I mean't to type 4/12/78. Sorry about that. Sullivan's isn't as great an article as on BJM's website, but Richard Sullivan's is still really good.

Flair & Blackjack did actually have matches before the fall. In the spring just after the hat/robe angle they were largely tag matches. These helped keep them apart as well as establish that Blackjack was a babyface by having him not turn on his face partners. There were single matches in mid to late July as well. We got enough to wet the appetite but certainly no clean finishes. Then the line of bounty hunters would heat up and Flair would battle with Steamboat and other faces. Christmas night 1978 Charlotte NC..... Flair vs Blackjack in a cage and the first match with Jones vs Steamboat. You know after Ricky turned on Paul.  |

Flair vs. Mulligan in a cage was also the Main Event for the Thanksgiving Greensboro show. Do you by chance have the Charlotte Christmas night results for that event? If I remember correctly, during the fall/winter of 1978 Flair was also semi-feuding with Ricky Steamboat. Two feuds at once is great. Yeah judging from my tapes, Flair did a lot of running away from Mulligan in those tag/6 man matches during the Spring/Summer of 1978. |
